Why do rebar bending machines require forming shafts of different diameters?

Because rebars of different diameters have different bending radius requirements, changing the forming shaft ensures accurate bending angles and prevents damage to the rebar.

Both 45# steel and 40Cr steel require proper heat treatment; otherwise, they will not be able to exhibit their inherent mechanical properties.

I. Reasons why heat treatment hardness (HRC) is crucial for bending machine pins:


The bending machine pin is the core load-bearing component in steel bar bending, subjected to radial compression, torsional shear, and repeated friction.  Heat treatment hardness directly determines its service life, working stability, and operational safety. Pins without appropriate hardness will fail quickly, leading to equipment malfunctions and even processing accidents.

Ensuring wear resistance and preventing rapid wear and deformation

The pin is in direct contact with the steel bar and the bending disc/forming shaft. Steel bars (especially rebar) have high hardness, and there is relative sliding during bending. If the pin's hardness is insufficient (HRC is too low), the surface will quickly show wear marks, dents, or even deformation, leading to increased clearance between the pin and its components, resulting in uncontrolled bending angle and accuracy, failing to meet processing requirements.

A qualified pin, after heat treatment, requires a surface hardness of HRC45~55 (the core load-bearing surface can be surface hardened to HRC58~62), effectively resisting wear and maintaining dimensional stability.

Improving compressive/torsional strength and preventing fracture failure

When bending steel bars, the pin must withstand the enormous radial compressive force and slight torsional force generated by the bending process. If the hardness is insufficient, the pin is prone to plastic deformation (such as bending or necking); if the hardness and toughness are not properly matched (hard but not tough), it is prone to brittle fracture under repeated loads.

A pin treated with tempering (quenching + high-temperature tempering), with a hardness controlled at HRC45~55, can simultaneously ensure both strength and toughness, resisting compression without deformation and withstanding repeated loads without brittle fracture, avoiding safety hazards such as equipment jamming and flying steel bars caused by pin fracture.

Reducing maintenance costs and ensuring continuous equipment operation

Pins with qualified hardness and proper processing have a slow wear rate and are not prone to failure, eliminating the need for frequent disassembly and replacement. If the pin's hardness is insufficient, it will require replacement in a short time due to wear/deformation, which not only increases parts costs but also affects construction progress due to equipment downtime. In short: Heat treatment hardness is the core guarantee for the wear resistance, deformation resistance, and fracture resistance of the pin shaft, and is a fundamental process indicator for matching the working load of the bending machine. Pin shafts without reasonable hardness cannot meet the working conditions requirements of steel bar bending.


II. Complete Drawing Parameters Required for Customizing Special-Shaped Bending Machine Pin Shafts

The core of customizing special-shaped pin shafts is to enable the processing party to accurately match the equipment installation, force requirements, and external dimensions. The drawings need to indicate basic dimensions, process requirements, and material requirements. The specific details are as follows:

1. Basic External Dimensions (Tolerances must be indicated)

Diameter of each section of the pin shaft + tolerance (e.g., h6/h7, the mating section needs to be precise, the non-mating section can be marked f8); length of each section + tolerance;

Dimensions of special-shaped structures (e.g., keyway/groove width/depth, taper angle/taper section length, no transition angle needs to be clearly marked);

End dimensions (e.g., flat head/round head/countersunk head, round head needs to indicate the spherical radius, countersunk head needs to indicate the countersunk hole depth/diameter).

2. Process and Heat Treatment Requirements

Heat treatment process: Clearly specify the overall process (e.g., tempering, surface hardening + tempering) + hardness value (e.g., overall tempering HRC45~50, surface hardening HRC58~62, the hardness testing position needs to be indicated);

3. Material Requirements

Base material grade: Recommended materials for bending machine pin shafts (45# steel, 40Cr, 40Cr is preferred for special-shaped heavy-duty pin shafts)
