Detailed Characteristics of Various Blade Materials

H13 (4Cr5MoSiV1) Hot Work Tool Steel

  • Performance: Hardness of HRC52-55 after heat treatment. Strong shock resistance to handle impacts, good high-temperature resistance, tough core (prevents cracking/chipping), and easy to harden. Great for Eagle scrap shear replacement blades in metal recycling.

  • Suitable for: Alligator shears (≥160T). Cuts extra-thick steel plates (≥30mm), hard round steel, regular alloy steel, thick-walled welded pipes, and other heavy materials.

  • Advantages: Good for heavy impact use in metal recycling. Strong shock resistance and toughness to avoid cracking/chipping. Easy to use and made with a mature process. Perfect for replacement blades.

H13K Modified H13 Hot Work Tool Steel

  • Performance: Improved version of H13. Keeps H13’s strong shock resistance, with better core toughness (less cracking/chipping), high-temperature stability, and fatigue resistance. Easier to harden than regular H13. Good for high-demand metal recycling with Eagle scrap shear replacement blades.

  • Suitable for: Extra-large alligator shears (≥180T). Cuts super-thick steel plates (≥40mm), heavy alloy steel, thick-walled seamless pipes, large structural steel, and other high-impact materials. Ideal for heavy, non-stop cutting in scrap yards.

  • Advantages: Better shock resistance and toughness than regular H13. Lasts 20%-30% longer in heavy use. Best choice for extra-large Eagle scrap shear replacement blades.

LD Steel (7Cr7Mo2V2Si) Cold Work Tool Steel

  • Performance: Hardness of HRC60-64 after heat treatment. Much more wear-resistant than regular tool steel. Tough core (prevents cracking/chipping), even hardness across the blade, and great resistance to abrasive wear. Good for replacement blades in metal recycling with medium-to-large shears.

  • Suitable for: Medium-to-large alligator shears (100T-160T). Cuts 10-30mm steel plates, thick rebar, rusty scrap steel, angle steel/channel steel, and other abrasive materials.

  • Advantages: Most wear-resistant of the three materials. Reduces blade replacement frequency and boosts large-scale metal recycling efficiency. Great for replacement blades.

Strengthening Process

The performance of these three materials depends on precise heat treatment and surface strengthening. This is key to boosting their shock resistance and toughness. Poor processing can make the same blade last less than half as long, and increase the risk of cracking/chipping during metal recycling.

Basic Heat Treatment Process

  1. Vacuum heat treatment (instead of regular air cooling) reduces surface oxidation and damage, ensuring even hardness across the blade.

  2. Low-temperature tempering (180-220℃) right after heating removes internal stress, prevents blade deformation and cracking, and keeps the material’s hardness and toughness stable.

Suggestions on Blade Material Selection

  • Crocodile shear blades and Eagle scrap shear blades usually use H13 material. It has reliable toughness and shock resistance to avoid cracking/chipping in metal recycling.

  • For complex scrap types, choose H13K for better toughness and shock resistance.

  • For higher requirements, contact the manufacturer to discuss upgrading material for replacement blades.

Mechanical blades are (special wearing parts) due to different cutting products, correct and reasonable selection of materials, heat treatment hardness, grinding accuracy, packaging requirements. Please contact us before purchase and confirm whether the blade specifications materials you need are available goods.

Our quality: All mechanical parts, tools, and molds are manufactured in-house. Upon arrival at our warehouse, products undergo rigorous inspection by a dedicated quality control department. The following is our production process:        

1. Blanking-choose materials according to customer requirements.
2. Forging-Forging is mainly to increase the density of the material.
3 .Annealing-to lower the temperature for processing.
4 .Finishing ---- mainly processing materials.
5 .Inspection ---- Inspect whether the product is consistent with the drawing sample.
6.Quenching ---- Improve the hardness of molded products and materials.
7 .Annealing-In order to increase the wear resistance of the product, it must be annealed for a long time to prevent the blade from breaking
8 .Tempering-mainly the parallelism of the tempering products for processing.
9 .Rough grinding ---- rough grinding the surface of the product.
10.Precision grinding ---- Super-precision grinding and mirror grinding to improve the accuracy and parallelism of the product.
11. Inspection-Let unqualified products refuse to flow into the market.
12 .Packing ---- Pack differently according to different products.
