Manufacturing Guillotine Shear Blades | D2 Steel Precision Grinding

Take a look at our production and high-precision CNC grinding process for premium guillotine shear blades and metal plate shearing knives.
At NANJING ALAS INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD, we believe clean, burr-free cutting results rely entirely on the straightness and parallelism of blade edges. To guarantee stable cutting quality, we use high-precision long-bed surface grinding machines. We keep blade straightness tolerance under0.02mm per meter, which prevents sheet metal deformation and saves extra cost on manual reworking and secondary grinding.

Key Manufacturing Processes

  • Premium Alloy Steel SelectionWe select reliable forged tool steel based on different cutting materials and working conditions:
    • D2 / Cr12MoV: High carbon and high chromium steel with outstanding wear resistance, suitable for long-hour mass production

    • H13: Great shock resistance and fatigue resistance, perfect for shearing thick steel plates and heavy-duty cutting

  • Professional Vacuum Heat TreatmentAfter strict vacuum heat treatment, our blades achieve consistent hardness of HRC 58–64 from surface to core. It strikes a practical balance between sharp edge retention and anti-chipping performance, avoiding easy damage during heavy cutting operations.

  • Full CNC Precision GrindingEvery key part of the blade, including cutting edges, countersink holes and mounting surfaces, is finished by precise CNC grinding. Both 2-edge and 4-edge reversible blades feature smooth surface and accurate assembly size for perfect installation.

Product & Service Advantages

  • 1:1 Replacement FitOur custom shear blades are fully compatible with mainstream heavy-duty shearing machines, including LVD, Amada, Accurpress, Cincinnati, Komatsu and other well-known brands. Direct replacement with no modification needed.

  • D2 (HRC 58–62): For carbon steel and non-metals; ideal for heavy cutting.

  • DC53 (HRC 60–64): For high-strength structural steel; high hardness, good toughness and anti-crack performance.

  • LD (7Cr7Mo2V2Si) (HRC 58–62): For hard-to-cut metals and thick plates on large shears; high strength and durability.

Q2: What metals can the blades cut?

A2: They work for carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, aluminum and copper sheets & plates. Custom blades for ultra-thin and extra-thick plates are also available.

Q3: 2-edge or 4-edge blade, which one should I choose?

A3: It depends on your machine structure. 4-edge blades can be rotated for 4 times before regrinding. 2-edge blades fit machines with special bevels or profiles. Please provide machine manuals or blade drawings for accurate selection.

Q4: What factors affect blade service life?

A4: Service life is related to cutting material, plate thickness and operation mode. Proper gap adjustment and regular lubrication can effectively extend service life.

Q5: Why do blades chip, crack or turn dull quickly?

A5: It is mainly caused by improper blade gap, overloading, insufficient lubrication, wrong installation or poor heat treatment. Keep the clearance at 7–10% of material thickness and follow standard operation. We use vacuum heat treatment to reduce internal stress and micro-cracks.

Q6: Can you produce custom blades?

A6: Yes. We provide OEM and ODM services. Custom size, shape, holes, bevel angles and mounting styles are available based on your drawings or machine models.

Q7: What machines are your blades compatible with?

Q8: Do you provide blade regrinding service?

A8: Yes. Professional regrinding and heat treatment repair can restore cutting performance and help cut replacement costs.

Q9: What is your delivery time?

A9: In-stock goods ship within 1–3 working days. Custom blades take 7–15 working days, subject to quantity and processing requirements.

Q10: How do you pack goods for export?

A10: Blades are coated with anti-rust oil, wrapped with waterproof film and packed in solid wooden cases, safe for long-distance sea and land transportation.

Q11: What is your MOQ and sales policy?

A11: We are a direct factory. Small trial orders, retail and bulk wholesale are all accepted with competitive prices and reliable quality.

FAQ: How to Select a Shearing Machine

Q1: What should I consider when choosing a shearing machine?
A1: You need to take material, cutting size, precision, production volume and budget into account.
Q2: How to confirm the required cutting capacity?
A2: Take mild steel as the standard. Reduce the rated thickness by 20–30% for stainless steel and high-carbon steel. Reserve 20% extra capacity for safety. Common cutting width includes 1500/2500/3000/4000mm, select according to your regular sheet size.
  • ≤4mm sheet: Choose mechanical shear

  • 4–12mm sheet: Choose hydraulic swing beam shear

  • >12mm sheet: Choose hydraulic guillotine shear

Q3: What are the differences between mechanical and hydraulic shears?
A3: Mechanical shear suits sheets within 6mm and mass production. It is fast and low-cost but noisy with fixed blade gap. Hydraulic shear fits sheets over 6mm and hard metals, featuring adjustable gap, low noise and high precision. Swing beam type is cost-effective for 4–12mm mild steel; guillotine type is better for thick plates and high-precision cutting.
Q4: What key specifications need attention?
A4: We recommend blades made of H13, DC53, D2 or SKD11 (HRC 58–62) with adjustable gap for burr-free cuts. Standard precision is ±0.1mm, and CNC type reaches ±0.05mm with auto positioning. The machine is equipped with safety guards, emergency stop and light curtains. Also check machine dimensions and weight to adapt to your workshop.
Q5: How to select based on production volume and budget?
A5: For low output, hydraulic swing beam shear is a versatile choice. For high output, pick mechanical shear for thin sheets and CNC hydraulic shear for thick plates. Mechanical shear has low upfront cost but higher maintenance cost; hydraulic shear needs higher investment with low maintenance; CNC shear delivers top performance at a premium price.
