Heavy Duty Plastic Crusher Blades & Granulator Knives – FAQ

Material & Advantages

  1. How your blades differ from OEM replacements?

Our blades follow original OEM sizes and hole layout for direct fitting. We use SKD11, D2, DC53, 9CrSi raw steel, processed with vacuum heat treatment and precision grinding to hit HRC 58-62 hardness. Longer service life than regular OEM blades at a more competitive cost.
  2. Steel grade selection for different plastics

  • SKD11(HRC58-62): Standard pick for hard engineering plastics like ABS, PC, PA, PET

  • D2: High abrasion resistance for glass-filled abrasive plastics

  • DC53: Strong anti-crack performance for thick plastic blocks and mixed recycled scraps

  • 9CrSi: Cost-effective option for soft PE, PP films to avoid material sticking

  1. Applicable granulator machine brands

Blades fit Cumberland, Conair, Zerma, Vecoplan, WEIMA, SSI, Rapid, AEC, Maguire, Blackfriars and most common crusher models. Send samples or drawings, we can copy OEM sizes precisely.
  2. Custom blade production available?

We accept OEM and ODM custom orders. Adjust blade size, cutting angle and steel material based on your machine model, plastic type and output requirement. Normal lead time 15-25 working days, fast-track order is negotiable.

Technical & Installation

  1. Hardness and service life data

Vacuum heat treated to HRC58-62. SKD11 blades last around 800-1200 working hours when cutting regular ABS, PC, PET; D2 works longer under abrasive working conditions. Used blades can be reground 10 to 15 times repeatedly.
  2. Standard blade clearance setting

Recommended gap between rotating and fixed blades ranges 0.10-0.25mm, most machines run best at 0.15-0.20mm. Start with small clearance for trial run, keep setting unchanged if no blade rubbing, follow original equipment manual for reference.
  3. Key points during blade replacement

  • Cut off power and wait rotor fully stop before any operation

  • Clean dirt and residue on blade mounting base completely

  • Tighten bolts following required torque; replace fixing screws after every six blade changes

  • Retighten all fasteners after one hour trial running

  • Replace blades one at a time to keep rotor balanced

  1. When blades need sharpening

  • Uneven crushed plastic size with excessive fine powder

  • Higher running noise and machine vibration

  • Noticeable drop in production output

  • Gradual rise of motor current

Dull blades wear screens, rotors and bearings easily, even lead to motor overheating.

  1. Correct blade sharpening method

Use wet surface grinding with coolant to prevent cutting edge from softening and retain original cutting angle. We provide onsite blade resharpen service to keep hardness at HRC58-62.
  2. Screen hole size matches blade gap

Install smaller blade gap near 0.10mm when using fine hole screens, to prevent screen clogging and oversized plastic particles.

Troubleshooting

  1. Sudden production capacity drop

Mostly caused by blunt blades or oversize cutting gap. Check blade edge wear first; if blades stay intact, inspect blocked or damaged screen and overly wet raw materials.
  2. Mixed big and small plastic granules

Uneven gaps between each set of fixed and rotary blades is the main reason. Use feeler gauge to adjust all gaps to same value, meanwhile clean leftover waste on rotor base and check loose installed blades.
  3. Abnormal noise and vibration fixes

  • Metal knocking sound: too narrow gap or loose blades scratch screen and machine cavity

  • Continuous bearing noise: poor lubrication or damaged bearings

  • Low frequency heavy vibration: unbalanced rotor from different blade weight or uneven installation

  1. Blade chipping and breaking causes

Metal debris like screws and nuts fall into crushing chamber, too small cutting gap, overhard raw plastic (switch to DC53 for heavy impact use), poor heat treatment. Our vacuum quenching plus low temperature tempering removes inner steel stress to lower breakage rate.
  2. Soft plastic sticks and melts on blades

Keep blades sharp to reduce friction heat; slightly increase blade clearance; choose 9CrSi blades for long term PE, PP film crushing.
  3. Cross-brand machine compatibility

Our blades suit most mainstream granulator brands mentioned above. Provide sample or drawing for accurate custom production.

Premium Plastic Crusher & Granulator Blades | Material & Application Guide

Our heavy-duty plastic crusher and granulator blades are built for industrial plastic size reduction and recycling tasks. Crafted with precision cutting geometry and high-grade steel, these blades deliver stable, long-lasting performance. They easily process rigid plastic scraps, recycled regrind, thick-walled plastic pipes and various engineering plastics, minimizing downtime and improving overall production efficiency.

Precision Design & Core Performance Advantages

Each blade is machined with elongated precision bolt slots, allowing fast, accurate rotor and stator gap adjustments. Precision-ground beveled edges create clean, aggressive scissor shear cuts during operation. This optimized design lowers material friction and machine power consumption, while significantly reducing fine particles and dust for cleaner processing results.

Key Technical Specifications

  • Material Grades: D2, SKD11, DC53, 9CrSi and high-speed steel (HSS) options, catering to different wear resistance and structural strength requirements

  • Hardness Rating: Vacuum heat-treated to HRC 58–62. This balanced hardness and impact toughness prevents edge chipping and blade breakage under continuous heavy loads

  • Compatible Equipment: Central granulators, beside-the-press grinders and heavy-duty plastic shredder systems

Key Application Scenarios

Our versatile recycling blades support full-cycle waste plastic processing for industrial and commercial recycling operations:
  1. Industrial & Post-Consumer Plastic Recycling: Shreds industrial and household waste plastics into uniform flakes and regrind, ready for washing, sorting and re-pelletizing.

  2. Pelletizing Preprocessing: Reduces bulky plastic stock into consistent small pieces to stabilize pelletizer feeding and boost overall processing speed.

  3. Volume Reduction Handling: Compacts loose waste plastic to cut storage space and lower logistics and transportation costs.

  4. Defective Product Disposal: Fully shreds rejected and obsolete plastic goods to prevent unqualified products from re-entering the market.

  5. Composite Material Recovery: Breaks down composite plastic parts to simplify subsequent sorting and separate different base materials for recycling.

Common Blade Types & Functional Features

  • Rotor Blades (Moving Blades): Mounted on crusher rotating rotors. Available in straight, staggered, V-shaped and hook-shaped multi-edge designs to enhance material intake and cutting efficiency.

  • Stator Blades (Fixed Blades): Fixed to the machine housing and paired with rotor blades for synchronized shearing. Mostly straight-edged; precise blade gaps directly determine crushing effect and finished particle quality.

  • Tubular Blades: Special cylindrical rotary blades for dedicated crushing machines, working with screen meshes to control final particle size.

  • Claw Blades: Featuring sharp claw teeth to grip and tear large-size, high-toughness plastic materials efficiently.

  • Multi-edge Indexable Blades: Designed with multiple usable cutting edges. They can be rotated and reground repeatedly to extend service life and reduce replacement costs.

Working Principle

During operation, rotating rotor blades work against fixed stator blades to crush plastics through combined shearing, impact and tearing forces. Machine throughput and finished particle size are controlled by blade gap, rotor speed and feeding rate. Blade selection should be matched to material type (hard plastic, soft plastic, film), target particle size and actual production capacity.

Professional Blade Material Selection Guide

Three Core Blade Materials for Plastic Recycling

1. SKD11 High-Carbon High-Chromium Steel – Ideal for Hard Plastics

Well-suited for hard, rigid plastics including ABS, PET and rigid PVC, and widely used for PET bottle granulator blades. SKD11 delivers exceptional hardness, reliable wear resistance and balanced toughness. It retains sharp edges longer to reduce replacement frequency and resists chipping or cracking during continuous heavy-duty recycling. Professional vacuum heat treatment ensures stable performance for long-term industrial operation.

2. 9CrSi Alloy Steel – Ideal for Soft Plastics & Films

A cost-effective, general-purpose material for standard plastic recycling. It performs best with thin, flexible materials such as PE and PP films. This grade effectively prevents sticky soft plastics from adhering to blade edges. With low material cost and strong adaptability, it meets most conventional waste plastic processing demands.

3. DC53 Alloy Steel – Ideal for Fiber-Reinforced & Thick Plastics

DC53 is an upgraded alternative to SKD11 with higher toughness and superior abrasion resistance. It is the optimal choice for processing fiber-reinforced plastics, thick plastic stock and mixed waste plastics. It minimizes sharpening and replacement intervals and stands up to long-running, high-intensity heavy-duty recycling work.

Blade Shape Matching Guide

  • Claw Blades: Best for plastic sheets, pipes and plastic barrels

  • Flat Blades: Perfect for films and woven bags, delivering clean, burr-free cuts

  • Matched Rotary & Fixed Blade Sets: Allow precise gap control for uniform, high-quality particle crushing

Quick Selection Reference

  • General & Budget-Friendly Operations: Choose 9CrSi. It covers most common plastic recycling scenarios at a lower cost.

  • Standard High-Efficiency Production: Choose SKD11. As the mainstream material for mid-to-high-end shredders and granulators, it offers excellent overall cost performance.

  • Heavy-Duty & High-Wear Conditions: Choose DC53. It provides extended service life and works perfectly for fiber-rich and thick plastic materials for budget-sufficient projects.

Core Selection Summary

Use SKD11 for hard plastic crushing, 9CrSi for soft plastic and film processing, and DC53 for thick fiber-reinforced plastics. 9CrSi suits basic universal recycling tasks, SKD11 is the top choice for standard high-efficiency industrial recycling, and DC53 is engineered for harsh, heavy-duty recycling applications.
