Chipper Blades: Factory-Direct Precision Cutting Parts for Industrial Processing

Product Overview

Chipper blades are core cutting parts for industrial wood chipping machines. Designed to chip logs, branches, bark and wood waste into uniform wood chips, they are widely used for raw material preparation in papermaking, pulping, engineered panel (particleboard / MDF) and biomass energy industries.
As a direct factory manufacturer, we make heavy-duty chipper blades for 24/7 industrial continuous operation. All blades deliver clean cuts, low material waste and solid structural stability, meeting mass round-the-clock production needs.

Structural Types & Core Technical Features

We supply two mainstream blade types to fit different output demands and raw material types, suitable for large mills and small-to-medium processing plants:

1. Disc Chipper Blades

Mounted on rotary disc units, available in 4pcs, 6pcs, 8-12pcs assembly and integrated spiral custom sets. Ideal for chipping large-diameter logs for uniform wood chips, it is the top choice for large-scale paper mill production lines.

2. Drum Chipper Blades

Fixed on cylindrical rotary drums, this blade type works well with mixed feedstock including bark, small branches and irregular timber. Cost-effective for small and medium plants handling mixed wood materials daily.

Blade Steel Grade Selection Guide

Blade performance depends on alloy composition and professional vacuum heat treatment. A8, A8B and D2 are three common premium tool steel grades for industrial chipper blades. Each features unique toughness, wear resistance, hardness and cost for different working conditions.

Detailed Introduction of Each Steel Grade Blade

A8 Chipper Blades

Made of low-carbon Cr-Mo balanced alloy, A8 blades feature excellent impact resistance and crack resistance. It withstands sudden heavy impact when chipping knotted logs, mixed timber and wet wood. Suitable for standard chippers processing logs, branches and mixed hardwood.

A8B Chipper Blades

Modified from standard A8 steel with optimized alloy ratio and upgraded vacuum heat treatment. It keeps high toughness of A8, with improved wear resistance and thermal stability. Cutting edges stay sharp during long-hour high-temperature operation, bringing best cost performance for long-term industrial use.

D2 Chipper Blades

Made of high-carbon high-chromium semi-stainless tool steel, D2 blades have top hardness and abrasion resistance to cut down replacement times. This steel is brittle and cannot bear heavy irregular impact. Fit for high-output chippers processing low-impact materials: softwood, bamboo and crop straw.

One-Click Quick Selection Guide

  • High-impact working scenarios: Mixed timber, knotted hardwood, wet raw wood → Choose A8 Blades (prioritize toughness to avoid edge breakage)

  • 24h uninterrupted production: Balanced cutting performance, long service life, comprehensive cost-effectiveness → Choose A8B Blades (all-round optimal performance)

  • Abrasive low-impact materials: Softwood, bamboo, crop straw, less frequent replacement demand → Choose D2 Blades (max edge retention & wear resistance)

Material Core Feature Summary

  • A8: Low carbon + medium chromium + high molybdenum & tungsten → Maximum impact toughness for heavy-impact wood shredding

  • A8B: Upgraded full alloy content based on A8 formulation → Balanced toughness and wear resistance, best for long-cycle industrial use

  • D2: Ultra-high carbon & chromium → Superior wear resistance, low toughness, exclusive for low-impact abrasive materials

Core Craft: Integral Vacuum Heat Treatment

chipper blades manufacturing

All our chipper blades adopt integral vacuum heat treatment, better than regular heat treatment:
  1. Eliminate internal steel residual stress

  2. Unify internal metal grain structure for uniform hardness

  3. Extend edge sharpness retention time greatly

Our replacement blades fit most mainstream wood chipper brands, delivering cleaner cuts and less dust for wood recycling work.

Custom OEM Blade Service

custom chipper blades

We offer full custom service for disc and drum chipper blades. Customize size, radian, mounting holes and steel grade per customer drawings, tolerance standard and site working conditions.
Precision custom processing lowers machine downtime and maintenance cost. Besides A8, A8B, D2, we also produce custom blades with A2 and Cr12MoV steel. All custom blades are vacuum heat-treated to keep stable sharpness for heavy-duty chipping.

FAQ

Q1: What is the average service life of your chipper blades?

A: Service life depends on raw material and steel grade. Under standard working conditions, our vacuum heat-treated blades last 2-3 times longer than ordinary heat-treated blades.

Q2: Can you produce custom blades per customer drawings?

A: Yes. We are professional OEM factory for custom chipper blades. Send us dimension drawings, tolerance and steel grade requirements, and we produce matched blades.

Q3: Which steel grade fits heavy-duty industrial chipper best?

A: Choose A8 or A8B blades for heavy-impact mixed wood processing to avoid blade breakage. Choose D2 blades for low-impact abrasive materials for longest edge life.
