Industrial Blades for Shredder & Plastic Granulator Knives

Cut downtime and operational costs with our tough shredder and plastic granulator blades. We use reliable materials: budget-friendly 9CrSi, wear-proof D2/SKD-11 and impact-resistant DC53.
Vacuum heat treatment brings hardness to 58–62 HRC. These blades cut cleanly, produce little fine dust, and stand up well to heavy use. They work for plastic film, PET bottles, rigid PVC pipes and hard waste materials.
We also make custom blades to match your drawings or physical samples.

Shredder & Granulator Blades Professional FAQ

1. Material & Performance Selection

Why choose 9CrSi steel for shredder blades, and what are its limitations?

9CrSi is a cost-effective alloy tool steel, with a hardness of 58–61 HRC and solid wear resistance. It works great for processing soft and semi-rigid plastics, such as PE/PP films, woven bags and regular PET bottles. However, it is not suitable for highly abrasive, rigid engineering plastics. For materials like glass-filled nylon and heavy ABS purges, D2 or DC53 steel is recommended to stop blades from dulling and wearing out too fast.

What is the core difference between D2 (SKD-11) and DC53 for shredder applications?

D2 (SKD-11) is a common industrial steel with excellent wear resistance. It stays sharp through long production runs and delivers consistent shredding performance. DC53 is an upgraded version of D2, boasting double the impact toughness. It is ideal for handling bulky plastic blocks, thick purges and materials with small hard contaminants that easily chip standard blades, effectively preventing blade cracking and edge chipping issues.

2. Maintenance & Operation Optimization

How does cutting gap affect blade lifespan and granulation quality?

When processing hard and rigid plastics, the optimal gap between rotor blades and fixed bed blades is 0.1mm to 0.2mm. If the gap is too wide, plastic material will be torn instead of being cleanly cut. This creates extra friction and fine powder, leads to machine overheating and plastic melting, speeds up blade wear, and results in poor, uneven granule quality.

Is it acceptable to replace only one damaged blade on a multi-blade rotor?

We do not recommend replacing only one single damaged blade. Shredder blades must always be replaced or reground as a full matching set. Fitting a new blade with old worn blades will cause rotor weight and height imbalance, which triggers strong machine vibration, uneven blade wear and early failure of main shaft bearings.

3. Custom Production & OEM Compatibility

Can you manufacture shredder blades per custom drawings or samples?

Absolutely yes. We provide professional OEM custom blade services. You can offer technical drawings, CAD files or send us your worn old blades as samples. We replicate all key specs, including tolerances, bolt hole positions and cutting angles, to ensure the blades fit your equipment perfectly.

Are these replacement blades compatible with mainstream international shredder brands?

Yes. Our standard and custom shredder and granulator blades are made to match or exceed OEM quality. Our high-precision replacement blades fit most mainstream brands, including Herbold, Cumberland, Rapid, Vecoplan and many more.

Can you produce custom-sized shredder and granulator blades?

Yes. We can customize blade sizes according to your machine model, drawings, actual dimension requirements and working conditions.

What technical information is required for custom blade production?

Please provide blade overall dimensions, thickness, hole positions, cutting edge angles, machine model and processing materials for customization.

4. Common Troubleshooting

How to fix uneven plastic granule output?

Uneven plastic granules are mostly caused by dull or damaged blades or incorrect blade gap. You can readjust the gap or replace worn blades as needed. Overly fast feeding speed can also cause uneven granulation, so please control the feed rate properly during operation.

How to resolve severe shredder operating vibration?

Severe machine vibration is mainly caused by loose blade bolts, unbalanced blade assembly or foreign objects stuck between blades. Stop the machine immediately and check these points for troubleshooting.

Optimizing Performance with Right Blades for Shredder and Granulator Knives

Introduction

In industrial recycling, your finished product quality and overall plant efficiency depend heavily on your shredder and granulator cutting tools. Dull, worn blades on single-shaft shredders and high-speed granulators commonly lead to higher power draw, machine overheating, and excessive fine dust generation. Selecting well-matched, high-quality blades for your specific recycling materials is one of the most practical ways to sustain stable throughput, improve regrind consistency, and maintain better profit margins.

Material Engineering: Balancing Operational Cost and Service Life

At ALAS, we know that no single steel grade works for every recycling application. To fit different processing needs, our shredder and plastic granulator blades are offered in multiple professional alloy options, balancing cost, hardness and toughness for real-world recycling conditions:
9CrSi Alloy Steel: A reliable, cost-effective choice. It is widely used in small and medium recycling facilities for processing soft plastics such as PE/PP films and woven sacks, as well as light rigid plastics including PET bottles. With a stable hardness of 58-61 HRC, this grade delivers dependable cutting performance without high investment costs.
D2 / SKD-11 Tool Steel: Ideal for high-wear engineering plastics, including ABS, PC and thick plastic profiles. This steel holds a sharp edge far longer than standard grades, extending service life and greatly reducing frequent sharpening and machine downtime.
DC53 High-Toughness Steel: Built for heavy-duty shredding work. It handles thick plastic purges, rubber, and glass fiber-contaminated plastics very well. The excellent toughness prevents edge chipping and cracking, ensuring stable operation under heavy, continuous loads.

Precision Structural Design: Minimizing Fine Dust Waste

Even top-grade blades work best only with precise machine fit and accurate clearance. Our custom-made replacement shredder blades are precision machined to maintain a tight clearance of 0.1mm to 0.2mm. This accurate gap stops materials from slipping or tearing in the cutting chamber, produces uniform-sized plastic flakes, and prevents material melting and screen clogging caused by excessive friction.

Core Advantages: Why Global Recyclers Choose ALAS

Full OEM Compatibility: We manufacture blades based on customer drawings or through professional reverse engineering. Every blade is precisely sized for perfect hole alignment and rotor balance, fitting most mainstream shredder and granulator brands on the market.
Rigorous Metallurgical Quality Control: We apply our HardnessMap inspection process to guarantee consistent hardness from surface to core. This avoids uneven blade performance and ensures steady cutting durability over long-term operation.
Lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO): By adopting premium steel grades and user-friendly blade profiles that are easy to resharpen, our blades achieve higher crushing output over their lifespan. This means more processed material per cost unit, lowering overall operation and maintenance expenses.

Conclusion

Dull, outdated cutting tools always hold back recycling plant productivity. Upgrading to application-tailored shredder and granulator blades delivers cleaner cuts, lower energy consumption, and fewer tool changeovers.
