Switching to high-quality shear blade blocks is the simplest way to get your machines back to peak performance and cut down on operating costs. Drawing on our in-depth knowledge of materials, structural design and real-world site experience, this guide will help you pick the right Cr12MoV and H13 blade blocks for all types of rebar cutters.

| Material | Hardness (HRC) | Toughness | Wear Resistance | Ideal Application for Hydraulic Shear Blade Blocks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cr12MoV (High-carbon high-chromium tool steel, equivalent to SKD-11) | 55-62 | Medium (Prone to brittleness under heavy impact) | Excellent | Ideal for bulk cutting cold-rolled rebar, threaded bars and plain round steel. The 4-way rotatable design quadruples service life and delivers clean, burr-free cuts. |
| H13 (Premium hot work die steel) | 50-55 | Excellent (Strong impact resistance) | Very Good | Perfect for Grade 60+ deformed rebar, high-speed cutting and scrap steel recycling. It stands up well to thermal fatigue and effectively stops blade edges from chipping. |
| 9CrSi (Cost-effective alloy tool steel) | 55-64 | Medium | Medium | A budget-friendly choice for small and medium projects, suited for regular low and medium-strength rebar. Note: This material is hard but brittle, so do not use it for high-impact cutting jobs. |
Great hardness and wear resistance: Rated at 58-62 HRC, it cuts Grade 60 rebar, cold-rolled round steel and threaded bars steadily for long runs.
Superior cutting results: Cuts come out spark-free and completely burr-free, so no extra finishing work is needed.
4-way rotatable design (Key feature): Each precision ground square or rectangular block has four separate cutting edges. When one edge wears out, just loosen the bolts, turn the block 90 degrees and retighten the fasteners. You’ll have a brand new sharp edge ready to use. In practice, one set works four times longer than standard blades.
Note: Cr12MoV only offers moderate toughness. Avoid using it for heavy impact work or when blade clearance is too large. Go with H13 for high-impact applications.
Professional Tip: Blade sizes vary by manufacturer and production batch. The above models are for reference only. Always check your equipment manual or measure your old blade first to ensure a perfect fit.

| Problem | Root Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Edge chipping / Fracture | Using low-toughness Cr12MoV for high-impact deformed rebar; improper gap between upper and lower blades | Switch to impact-resistant H13 material; adjust blade clearance according to rebar size |
| Blunt blades too quickly | Using soft 9CrSi blades on high-strength rebar; cutting scrap steel mixed with sand and gravel | Upgrade to wear-resistant Cr12MoV or tough H13; H13 is the top pick for scrap steel cutting |
| Uneven cuts / Heavy burrs | Worn blade edges or misaligned blade holders | Rotate to a new cutting edge; realign and recalibrate the holders |
Set blade clearance properly: Adjust the gap between upper and lower blades based on rebar diameter, to prevent excessive friction and hard impacts.
Keep edges sharp and aligned: This cuts power consumption and ensures flat, clean cuts for later welding and thread rolling.
Choose materials based on your rebar type:
High-strength deformed rebar & high-impact cutting → H13
Cold-rolled round steel, threaded bars & regular hard rebar (low impact) → Cr12MoV
Standard rebar for small and medium projects → 9CrSi
Check fasteners regularly: Replace loose or rusted bolts and spring washers in a timely manner.
| Rebar & Working Condition | Recommended Material | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Grade 60+ high-strength deformed rebar, continuous high-impact cutting | H13 | Excellent impact resistance stops edges from chipping |
| Bulk cutting cold-rolled round steel, threaded bars & regular hard rebar (low impact) | Cr12MoV | Great wear resistance plus 4-way rotation for longer service life |
| Small and medium projects, regular low/medium-strength rebar | 9CrSi | Cost-effective and easy to maintain |
| Scrap steel & rusted rebar mixed with sand and gravel | H13 or high-nickel alloy | Balanced wear resistance and impact resistance |
Fully precision ground and vacuum heat treated: Ensures even hardness across the entire block, avoiding partial wear and chipping.
Strong edge retention: Blades stay sharp even after long hours of continuous cutting, so you replace parts less often.
Reliable toughness: H13 resists fracture when cutting high-strength rebar; Cr12MoV holds its sharpness well under heavy wear.
4x longer service life thanks to the 4-way rotatable design (especially for square Cr12MoV blocks)
Fewer replacements, lower overall procurement and shipping costs
Clean, burr-free cuts to speed up all follow-up processes
