The ALAS Precision Single & Double V Bottom Die Series is specifically engineered for high-accuracy CNC press brakes equipped with European-style fast-change clamping bases (13 mm standard tang / 60 mm base width). Unlike traditional multi-V block dies that suffer from centerline deviation and cumbersome manual adjustment, this series focuses on instant self-centering, high repeatability, and mark-free bending performance.
This product range is strictly designed for self-centering European fast-change systems (hydraulic/pneumatic/manual quick-clamp). It is physically isolated from traditional 4-way multi-V blocks and segmented adjustable multi-V dies.
European Fast-Change Compatible | Self-Centering Precision | High Load Capacity (Up to 1000 kN/m) | Anti-Indentation Shoulder Radius
Manufactured to strict DIN standards, each die features a ground mounting tang and precision-machined V-grooves for direct plug-and-play operation without re-alignment.
V-Opening Range: Single V: V = 6 mm - 25 mm; Double V: V1/V2 = 6/10, 8/12, 12/16 mm (combinations)
V-Angle Options: Single V: 86° / 88° / 30° (Acute); Double V: 86° / 88°
Base Tang Width: both: 13 mm Standard Tang / 60 mm Base Width
Parallelism / Centering: Single V: ≤ 0.01 mm / 500 mm; Double V: ≤ 0.015 mm / 500 mm
Repeatability Accuracy: Single V: ±0.01 mm; Double V: ±0.02 mm
Max Load Capacity: Single V: Up to 1000 kN/m (100 Tons/m); Double V: Up to 800 kN/m (80 Tons/m)
To withstand continuous high-tonnage forming without deforming or premature wear, all dies undergo rigorous metallurgical processing:
Base Material: Forged premium-grade 42CrMo alloy structural steel (equivalent to AISI 4140 / DIN 1.7225), vacuum degassed and 3D forged for maximum internal density.
Core Heat Treatment: Quenched and tempered overall to HRC 47 ± 3, providing exceptional toughness and flexural strength.
Induction Hardened Shoulder: High-frequency induction hardening applied to V-groove working shoulders reaching HRC 50 - 55.
Hardened Case Depth: Deep hardened layer of 3.0 - 5.0 mm prevents shoulder collapsing under extreme point pressure.
In standard air bending applications, selecting the optimal V-opening width V is critical for calculating tonnage requirements and internal radius formation.
For medium and thin sheet metals (T ≤ 6 mm), the standard air bending rule applies:
V = 8 × T
(Note: Use V = 6 × T for high-tensile steel or tight inner radii; use V = 10 × T for aluminum alloys or larger radii).
Required force per meter P (kN/m) can be calculated using the empirical formula:
P = (1.42 × σb × T^2) / V
Where:
σb = Material Tensile Strength (MPa) [e.g., Mild Steel ≈ 450 MPa, Stainless Steel ≈ 700 MPa]
T = Sheet Metal Thickness (mm)
V = Die V-Opening Width (mm)
A: Traditional 4-way blocks are bulky and introduce centerline drift when rotated, requiring manual recalibration. ALAS Single-V and Double-V European-style dies are engineered as lightweight, high-accuracy units. They feature an integrated 13mm mounting tang that seats natively into hydraulic quick-change rails, maintaining a strict alignment axis of ≤ ±0.01 mm for immediate self-centering and fast tool changeovers.
A: Our European standard dies feature fine CNC-ground finishes (≤ Ra 0.8 μm) combined with carefully enlarged and polished shoulder entry radii. This minimizes sliding contact friction, drastically reducing tool-rub scuffing on sensitive materials like mirror stainless steel or pre-painted architectural aluminum panels. For absolute mark-free fabrication, we also offer optional urethane inserts and specialized bending protective tape.
A: These dies are natively ground with a 13 mm mounting tang matching the European standard (Amada/Promecam/Safan/Durma style) 60 mm base width rails. They provide 100% direct-fit, plug-and-play compatibility with those European fast-change lower tool holders. To seat them securely into Wila New Standard hydraulic holders or thick-slot American beds, an intermediate lower conversion adapter bolster must be utilized to maintain precise horizontal alignment.
A: Each ALAS Euro-style lower tooling block undergoes a dual-stage heat treatment matrix. The tool steel volume is through-hardened to HRC 47±3 for deep flexural toughness. Following this, the critical V-groove contact shoulders undergo localized induction hardening, creating a 3.0 to 5.0 mm deep hardened case reaching HRC 50-55 to permanently eliminate shoulder collapsing or track trenching.
A: Every CNC die has a calculated maximum load limit per meter, which is strictly determined by its material thickness and V-opening size. Refer to the specifications above for the per-meter capacities (1000 kN/m for Single V, 800 kN/m for Double V). ALAS supplies a standard tonnage reference chart with every order to ensure safe operation for both your tools and the hydraulic press brake.
A:
Daily Cleaning: Keep V-openings completely clear of abrasive mill scale, metal shards, and oxide debris.
Regular Inspection: Periodically check the hardened shoulder radii for signs of uneven trenching or premature wear track lines.
Restoration: When wear exceeds acceptable tolerances, take advantage of our professional re-grinding service to restore the original die geometry and micron precision.
A: Absolutely. For critical cosmetic components like mirror stainless steel elevator panels or pre-painted commercial claddings, ALAS precision single V dies can be custom-machined to accommodate premium polyurethane (urethane) padding strips or specialized nylon insert holders. This completely eliminates steel-on-steel cold extrusion friction, delivering absolute defect-free part surfaces.
A: To guarantee seamless parallel alignment along a multi-meter hydraulic bed, all fractional segments within an ALAS Double-V or Single-V order set are locked into an industrial multi-axis surface grinder and processed sequentially in a single CNC clamping setup. This ensures that combined joints maintain a cross-sectional height variance of ≤0.015mm, completely eradicating localized angle distortion or stepped mark lines on long workpieces.
Strict Parallel Seating Mandate: Never activate your press brake's automated quick-clamps if microscopic mill scale or steel slag is trapped underneath the 13 mm mounting tang. A foreign particle as thin as 0.05 mm will tilt the parallel plane, leading to asymmetric shoulder deformation or erratic bending angle track lines.
Strict Tonnage Load Buffer Limits: Do not operate at peak cylinder capacities on extra-thin sheet profiles without executing safety de-rating calculations. Overloading narrow V-grooves risks triggering permanent shoulder collapsed cracks, edge chipping, or irreversible bed carrier distortion.
Prohibition of Manual Face Sharpening: All ALAS precision V-groove boundaries are milled via computerized multi-axis machine setups. Hand-held grinding or unchecked surface machining is strictly forbidden, as it will alter the original die geometry, compromise the 3.0-5.0 mm induction hardened layer depth, and shift the axis out of tolerance boundaries.
Mandatory Asymmetric Alignment Interlock: When operating European double-V dies with mismatched adjacent openings (e.g., a 6mm groove adjacent to a 16mm groove), never trigger the automated downward stroke without updating your CNC controller's anti-collision daylight profile. Running a heavy-duty punch designed for a wide V-opening into the tight narrow V-slot channel will spike horizontal splitting stresses instantly past 150% of the rated compressive yield threshold, causing explosive fracturing of the tool core and devastating the press brake quick-clamps.
Precision is the heart of every bend. In this video, we showcase the fine grinding process of our high-quality press brake bottom dies.
Straightness Control: Our surface grinding ensures absolute parallelism over the entire length (up to 6 meters).
Heat Management: High-flow coolant prevents thermal deformation, preserving the integrity of the 42CrMo steel.
The Result: Consistent bending angles and a flawless finish on your sheet metal parts.
