High-Precision Circular Paper Cutting Blades: Clean Cuts, Zero Dust – For High-Speed Converting Lines
Modern paper converting, laminating and packaging operations rely heavily on reliable cutting tool performance. Cutting tool precision directly determines line running stability and finished product consistency.
When running at high operational speeds, conventional alloy steel blades tend to suffer thermal softening and rapid edge dulling. This common production issue leads to torn paper edges, excessive cutting dust, equipment wear, frequent web breaks and flawed printed outputs.
ALAS specializes in manufacturing heavy-duty precision circular slitting knives dedicated to industrial paper slitting systems. Engineered to withstand intense frictional heat while maintaining micron-level machining tolerance, our knives fit full-range paper materials from ultra-thin tissue paper to heavy thick cardboard. End users gain dust-free clean cuts, extended blade service life and minimized production downtime.
Micron-Level Machining Tolerance | Stop Unexpected Web Breaks
Unexpected line shutdowns and web breaks mostly stem from tiny concentricity flaws and uneven blade thickness.
All ALAS rotary slitter knives adopt professional CNC precision grinding and double-disc lapping processing. We achieve industry-leading machining standards:
Thickness tolerance: ±0.002 mm
Strict control over concentricity, OD, ID and total runout
Precision manufacturing guarantees stable axial runout. The slitting track keeps steady without shaking or offsetting during long-hour mass production. It brings consistent slit width, smooth roll edges, zero web breaks, and effective protection for costly slitter-rewinder bearings against premature wear.
Two Blade Material Grades | Match Your Speed & Budget
Targeting automated slitting lines running at 300–800 m/min, ALAS provides two mature metal materials for differentiated production demands.
Grade 1: Upgraded Cr12MoV (D2/SKD11) — Optimized Universal Blade (Updated from Traditional Cr12)
Traditional Cr12 steel has limited hardenability and poor impact toughness, which easily causes edge chipping in long-term slitting. ALAS upgrades regular Cr12 to Cr12MoV (international grade: D2 / SKD11) by adding molybdenum (Mo) and vanadium (V) elements. It becomes the mainstream cost-grade material for modern paper slitting lines.
Core Performance
Hardness: HRC 58–62 (post heat treatment)
Upgrade Advantage: Higher toughness, anti-chipping performance, better hardenability than original Cr12
Service life: 3–5 times longer than ordinary carbon steel
Feature: Low deformation after heat treatment, good low-impact toughness
Cost: More affordable than HSS and tungsten carbide blades
Best Application Scenarios
Medium/thick paper, kraft paper, corrugated cardboard
Abrasive coated & laminated paper stock
Long-run stable production with standard precision (±0.01–0.02 mm tolerance)
Grade 2: HSS High-Speed Steel (M2 / W6Mo5Cr4V2 / SKH51) — High-Speed Premium Blade
Alloyed with tungsten, molybdenum, chromium and vanadium, HSS blades feature excellent red hardness. Unlike common cold-work steel that fails under high frictional heat, ALAS HSS blades keep stable cutting performance under continuous high-speed operation.
Core Performance
Hardness: HRC 60–68, higher than Cr12 steel
Heat resistance: Remains hard under 500°C local friction temperature
Anti-chipping toughness: Outperforms Cr12 for uneven thick paper cutting
Ultra-fine cutting edge: Realizes dust-free burr-free slitting
Best Application Scenarios
High-speed slitting lines with severe heat accumulation
Delicate materials: tissue paper, release paper, premium adhesive labels
High-value printed paper, thermal paper, multi-layer tough cardboard

3 Professional Industrial Optimization Notes for Procurement & Production Standard
Cr12 Upgrade Suggestion: Traditional pure Cr12 is phased out in modern paper slitting industry due to poor toughness and insufficient hardenability. Cr12MoV (D2/SKD11) with Mo & V additive is the upgraded replacement, featuring stronger wear resistance and edge chipping resistance, perfectly fit for medium-speed cardboard slitting and general abrasive paper processing.
Ultimate Solution for Heavy-Abrasive Paper: For long-batch production of mineral-coated abrasive paper (sandpaper, mineral-coated base paper), Cr12/Cr12MoV cannot meet ultra-long service demand. ALAS recommends Tungsten Carbide or PM-HSS (ASP23/CPM10V). Though with higher upfront cost, its abrasion resistance is dozens of times higher than Cr-series steel.
Material Selection Rule: Prioritize Cr12MoV to replace raw Cr12 for daily standard production; adopt mirror-polished HSS for all high-speed & delicate material slitting; choose carbide/PM-HSS for full-time heavy-abrasive paper mass production.
Mirror-Grade Surface Lapping | Fully Reduce Fiber Adhesion
Blade surface finish determines cutting dust volume. Every ALAS circular knife undergoes multi-stage mirror polishing and precision lapping to achieve near-zero surface roughness.
Key Polishing Benefits
Low surface friction: No paper fiber sticking on blade edges
Zero dust buildup: Protect line optical sensors from contamination
Full-speed clean cutting: Burr-free edges for coated & printed paper
Core Application Fields
Paper & Packaging: Kraft paper, newsprint, cardboard, self-adhesive labels, tissue paper slitting
Post-Converting Processing: Fixed-width cutting for printing, laminating, bag making and roll rewinding
High-Speed Production Lines: Stable running at 300–800 m/min with low vibration
Special Material Slitting: Thermal paper, release paper, multi-layer laminated film-paper composite materials
