Multi V Bending Dies: The Core of Flexible & Efficient Metal Bending
In modern metal fabrication shops, flexibility and efficiency directly determine production capacity and profitability. Constant tool changes not only waste time but also reduce equipment utilization. Multi V Bending Dies (Multi-V Bending Blocks) solve this pain point perfectly by integrating multiple V-grooves of different widths into one solid die block, allowing operators to bend various sheet thicknesses without frequent tool replacement, greatly shortening setup time and improving press brake productivity.
Why Multi V Bending Dies Are Essential for Flexible Metal Fabrication
Versatility is the key to profitability in modern fabrication. A multi V bending die combines several V-openings in a single block, enabling processing of different material thicknesses in one setup. This eliminates repeated tool disassembly and adjustment, minimizes downtime, maximizes press brake efficiency, and makes production scheduling more flexible for small-batch, multi-variety orders.
Core Structure & Working Principle
Upper Die
Mounted on the moving slider of the press brake, it is the active pressing part. Its profile—such as standard straight, sharp angle, gooseneck, or radius—defines the outer shape of the bent workpiece.
Lower Die (Multi V Die)
Fixed on the machine workbench, it is the supporting part with multiple precision-machined V-grooves. The width of each V-opening directly influences bending force, inner radius, springback, and forming quality.
Working Principle
The metal sheet is placed on the multi V lower die. The slider drives the upper die downward, forcing the sheet to undergo plastic deformation along the contours of the upper and lower dies. After reaching the preset stroke and pressure, bending is completed. The upper die retracts, and the finished part is removed.
Material & Performance Characteristics
High Rigidity & Wear Resistance
Mostly made of alloy structural steel such as 42CrMo, hardened to HRC45–HRC50 via quenching and tempering, ensuring stability under heavy load and long service life.
High Precision & Consistency
Machined by in-house precision CNC equipment, ensuring consistent angle accuracy along the entire length.
Strong Compatibility
Standardized dimensions fit most press brake clamping systems, with customizable groove layouts and heights.
Versatility in One Tool
One die replaces multiple single-V dies, reducing inventory and setup costs.
Common Types & Application Scenarios

Standard Multi V Dies
2–4 groups of V-grooves for general sheet bending.
Thick Plate-Oriented Multi V Dies
Wider and deeper V-openings for high-strength steel and thick plates.
Thin Sheet Precision Multi V Dies
Smaller V-grooves to avoid scratching and deformation.
By Equipment Interface
Amada / Promecam Type
Compatible with the clamping system of Amada series bending machines.
Trumpf / Wila Type
Compatible with the clamping system of Trumpf and Wila series bending machines.
New Standard Type
Universal interface suitable for most domestic press brakes.
Selection Guide for Multi V Bending Dies
1. Match Material & Thickness
Choose corresponding V-grooves based on material tensile strength and springback. Stainless steel and high-strength steel require wider V-openings and stronger die structures.
2. Follow the 8X Principle
Core Formula
The standard V-groove width ≈ 8 × material thickness.
Adjustment for Different Thicknesses
Thin plate (T<3mm): V = 6T; Thick plate (T>8mm): V = 10T–12T to reduce pressure and prevent cracking.
3. Pressure Tonnage Matching
Ensure the die’s load capacity matches the press brake tonnage, with a 10–15% safety margin to avoid overloading and breakage.
4. Upper Die Matching
Select straight, sharp-angle, gooseneck, or radius punches according to workpiece shape to avoid interference.
5. Installation Compatibility
Confirm shank type, mounting size, and die height to match the press brake stroke and clamping system.
