Maintenance of Rebar Cutting Blades

Rebar Cutting Blades

How to Maintain Them

I. Pre-Use Inspection

1. Check the blades for chipping, curling, or cracks.  Minor chips can be repaired by grinding; severely damaged blades should be replaced immediately.

2. Clean the blade surface and the blade holder of iron filings, dirt, and rust to prevent impurities from exacerbating blade wear during cutting or causing uneven stress on the blade.

3. Check the blade's mounting and tightening to ensure that the bolts are not loose, preventing blade displacement or vibration during cutting.

4. Avoid overloading: Do not use small-tonnage equipment to cut oversized rebar, as this can cause the blade to crack due to excessive stress.

5. When not in use for extended periods, apply sufficient anti-rust oil and wrap the blades in oil paper to prevent rust caused by high humidity.

II. Regular Maintenance

1. When the blade edge becomes dull (indicated by increased cutting resistance and more burrs on the rebar cross-section), it needs to be sharpened promptly.

2. Sharpening points: Control the amount of grinding; the thickness of each grinding should not exceed 0.2mm to avoid thinning the blade; after grinding, polish the blade edge with an oil stone to remove burrs.

3. For square four-sided blades, when one edge becomes dull, rotate and replace it with a new edge to fully utilize all four cutting surfaces and reduce consumable costs.

For rectangular double-sided blades, regularly flip and use the other side to ensure even wear of the blade edge.

III. Prohibited Actions

Do not force-cut rebar with a dull blade, as this can cause chipping, blade deformation, or even damage to the rebar cutting machine.

Do not continuously cut high-strength rebar for extended periods without cooling, as high temperatures can cause the blade edge to anneal and reduce its hardness.

Do not mix and use blades of different materials or specifications, as this can lead to uneven stress and cause blade breakage.
