Common Material Overview & Product Introduction of Fly Shear Blade
Main Blade Material: H13 (4Cr5MoSiV1)
The main material for fly shear blades is H13 (4Cr5MoSiV1), a hot work die steel. Below are its key features and common uses:
Type: Hot work die steel
Key features: Good high-temperature strength and resistance to thermal fatigue
Common uses: Hot-shearing hot rolled plate, iron plate, medium/thick plate, scrap metal, strip steel; cold-shearing high-strength alloy steel and thick stainless steel plate
Detailed Features of H13 (4Cr5MoSiV1)
Performance: Excellent high-temperature strength, impact toughness and thermal fatigue resistance. It keeps good hardness and cutting performance in high temperatures, and is not easy to soften or deform.
Hardness: HRC 50-55 (after heat treatment)
Applicability: Works well for hot-shearing strip steel and thick plates, and cold-shearing high-strength alloy steel and thick stainless steel plates. It is also compatible with SKD61 (equivalent grade) and can be replaced by Ni-Cr-Mo heat-resistant steel for extreme high-temperature work.
Fly Shear Blades: Designed for High-Speed Precision
In modern high-speed rolling lines, speed and precision are critical. Fly shear blades (also called rotary shear knives) must cut moving materials accurately—often at speeds over 100 meters per second.
As key equipment in steel and tube mills, flying shears cut materials without stopping the line. Good fly shear blades need:
Sharp edges for clean cuts
Enough toughness to handle impacts
Perfect balance for stable high-speed rotation
At AlasMachinery, we create fly shear solutions that balance stability, heat resistance and durability. This ensures your production line runs non-stop and your products stay high-quality.
AlasMachinery Advantages
Ordinary blades often break under high centrifugal force and heat shock. Our design solves these problems with the following advantages:
1. High-Quality Materials
We use high-grade H13 (4Cr5MoSiV1, equivalent to SKD61) and other heat-resistant alloys. These materials have excellent "red hardness"—they keep sharp edges and structure stability when cutting hot steel rods, bars and strips. For ultra-high temperatures, we use Ni-Cr-Mo steel to prevent heat damage and edge deformation.
2. Precision Dynamic Balance
Even small weight differences can cause vibration at high speeds. This leads to poor cuts, burrs or equipment damage. All our blades are machined to micron-level precision and inspected strictly to ensure smooth rotation at maximum speed.
3. Strong Cutting Performance & Impact Resistance
Vacuum heat treatment optimizes the material’s internal structure, making blades tough and preventing sudden breakage.
Custom edge angles reduce burrs and prevent material deformation during cutting.
Application Scenarios
We provide customized fly shear blades for many production lines:
Wire Rod Mills: High-speed cutting of wire rod heads and tails
Rebar Shearing Lines: High-speed fixed-length cutting of rebar
Continuous Casting Lines: Cutting steel billets and blooms
Slitting Lines: Rotary cutting of metal strips and sheets
Hot Work: Special blades for cutting red-hot billets, bars and thick plates
